STEAM is an interdisciplinary or integrated approach that affords students with an opportunity to gain, apply and deepen understanding through the development of creative and critical thinking. STEAM projects provide students with authentic inquiry and project-based learning.
The principles of development for the Senior School STEAM projects are based on 6 goals.
Goal 1: Help students integrate prior knowledge thus enabling students to activate and build new expertise.
Goal 2: Help students organise information and apply new knowledge, enabling them to connect retrieve and apply new information.
Goal 3: Help students learn through grit and determination, by celebrating failure and sustained practice.
Goal 4: Help students develop fluency and automaticity by performing complex tasks. Students will integrate these skills in the application of science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics.
Goal 5: Help students understand the need for goal-directed practice, incorporating quality feedback that enhances the quality of learning.
Goal 6: Help students become self-directed learners, encouraging them to take responsibility for their planning, self-assessing, monitoring and reflection.
