Prep | Term 4, 2025 | Term Overview

Welcome back to Term 4, our final term in Prep. We are so looking forward to a very productive term ahead, full of enriching and engaging learning experiences. We have included an overview below, summarising the basic outline of all curriculum areas for the duration of the term.

English and Geography

In English this term, the girls will continue to work in small group literacy sessions. These sessions involve explicit teaching and consolidation of literacy skills, including phonemic awareness and other pre-writing and pre-reading skills.

This term our integrated program is Places. During Weeks 1 to 4, our focus will be on The Places we Live in and Play. Students will have the opportunity to become more familiar with our beautiful Ascham environment. The girls will be involved in brainstorming activities, drawing and communicating geographical information, and visiting different parts of Ascham. During Weeks 5 to 9 the focus will be Sydney Harbour and the Surrounding Beaches. The girls will identify familiar areas around our beautiful harbour and beaches and share their own related experiences and knowledge. We will investigate how people use these areas and explore some of the living creatures that inhabit these environments. Students will be encouraged to share their ideas and knowledge with the group using a variety of forms.

Mathematics

Throughout our final term in Prep, students will continue to establish and consolidate key mathematical concepts through investigations and activities based on Whole Number, Addition and Subtraction, Multiplication and Division, Fractions, Volume and Capacity, and three-dimensional shapes including a revision of other mathematical content taught throughout the year. Activities will include counting, sorting, adding, taking away and making equal groups of objects. The girls will continue to develop their ability to use mathematical language such as more than, less than, larger than, smaller than and the same as. We will continue to provide opportunities for students to use materials and resources to explore the various concepts and to establish a solid and visual understanding of each mathematical sub-strand. Additionally, the girls will be given opportunities to engage in interactive mathematical games on the iPads and our large interactive board.

Science and Technology

In Digital Technologies, students will continue to learn about how robots can follow a series of steps to solve problems. Students will develop their computational skills with various hands-on unplugged activities. Students will also explore digital devices and applications to discover how they are used in our everyday life to communicate with others.

Information Literacy

Prep students visit the Library every Tuesday for reading and borrowing. Please remember to pack a library bag with the previous week’s book ready to return. The Teacher Librarian will share stories and non-fiction books relating to topics being explored in the classroom. In addition to regular bedtime stories, families are encouraged to use https://storyboxhub.com/ to enjoy a free online collection of books and storytelling on any device.
