Chess is a game that develops a student’s capacity for reasoning and strategic thinking. There is a thriving community of chess players at Ascham who meet weekly to play and train to represent the School at competitions throughout the year.
Chess is promoted by the Chess Captain and Vice-Captain, who are competent players and are enthusiastic about promoting the interhouse competitions.

Hillingdon Chess Club runs on Friday afternoons for Year 2 (3.15pm to 4.15pm).
Fiona School Chess Club runs on Friday afternoons 3.15-4.15 pm throughout the School term, facilitated by coaches from the Sydney Chess Academy, with Ascham Junior School staff supervising.
Students are kindly asked to meet at the Fig Tree after dismissal.
Senior School Chess Club occurs during lunchtime throughout the School term, facilitated by a combination of Ascham Old Girls and coaches from the Sydney Chess Academy.
